I'm extremely excited to announce that my thesis
Can She Really 'Play That Game, Too'?:
A Narrative Exploration of Women's Experiences with Hookup Culture at Middlebury College
is now available to download!
While this thesis describes Middlebury, numerous readers have informed me it represents romantic and sexual cultures at campuses nationwide. I encourage anyone interested in modern love and romance to check it out.
For those I don't know: Hi! My name is Leah Fessler and I graduated Middlebury College in Spring 2015. At Midd I was an English and American Literatures major, and focused on creative non-fiction writing. For my senior thesis, a long-form non-fiction project, I investigated romantic and sexual culture at Middlebury College. After interviewing almost 100 students, and surveying over 300, I wrote "Can She Really 'Play That Game, Too?", which documents the realities of hookup culture at Middlebury from a female perspective. It's explicit, entertaining, and 100% true.
I will be speaking about my modern romance and sexuality research at this summer's Aspen Ideas Festival on the Sex in America Track!
I look forward to hearing what you think, and sincerely appreciate your support!

I'm Leah, a modern culture writer, public speaker, and creative professional focusing on the intersections of romance, sexual culture, gender dynamics, and technology. I also love talking to strangers, world travel, word counts, and a perfectly cooked beet. I've been told I'm direct, determined, and somewhat humorous. I'd like to agree.
In May 2015, I graduated from Middlebury College with a degree in English and American literatures and a focus in nonfiction creative writing, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa.
My writing has been published by Atlantic Media, and largely centers on my senior thesis, “Can She Really, ‘Play That Game, Too’?” — a narrative exploration of women’s experiences with the hookup culture at Middlebury, featuring extensive personal research.
Recent features and personal essays have also been published in Mashable, Brooklyn Magazine and Quartz. I spent the past year working in management for Bridgewater Associates, and am a contributing editor to Middlebury Magazine.
I will be speaking at the June 2016 Aspen Ideas Festival on the Sex in America track, a selective honor I look forward to greatly.
I have a lot to learn, and want to keep moving.
If you’re willing to read, I’m ready to write.
